Cystic peritoneal mesothelioma radiology - A multicystic mesothelioma ia a rare benign sub type of mesothelioma.
Epidemiology
They tend to occur in young females
Pathology
Typically comprises of multiple grape - like clusters of cysts which are lined with mesothelium and separated by fibrous tissue components.
Risk Factor
Location
Primarily occurs in the pelvic peritonium
Radiograpic Feature
Ultrasound
May appear as a multicstic pelvic mass

Risk Factor
- Previous abdominal sugery
 - Previous pelvic inflamattory disease
 - No recognised assosiation with absestos exposure
 
Location
Primarily occurs in the pelvic peritonium
Radiograpic Feature
Ultrasound
May appear as a multicstic pelvic mass
CT
- Typically seen as a well - defined low attenuatung pelvic mass.
 - Calcification is generally not a feature
 
Treatment and prognosis
Surgery is the preffered option for localiced lesions, The tumour tends to recurs locally. Not thought to be chemo or radio sensitive.
Differential Diagnosis
The general differential includes
- Ovarian cystadenoma
 - Ovarian cystadenocarcinoma
 - Endometriotis
 - Cystic teratoma
